Gay’s Aiming at 9.58

Tyson Gay, world’s second fastest man, is confident that he will close the gap on his super rival Usain Bolt in 2010.

Suffered from a groin injury last year, Gay pulled out of the 200m at the World Championships in Berlin and ranked the second over 100m behind Bolt. Gay equaled Bolt's former world record of 9.69 seconds last September at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix.

Recovering from his injury this year, Tyson is optimistic about this season. Earlier in last month, Gay clocked 44.89 seconds over 400m in Florida, which made him the only sprinter to dip under ten seconds over 100m, 20 seconds over 200m and 45 seconds over 400m.

"I'm healthy and for me to open over 400m with 44.8 by accident, having not been training in spikes or done any speed work, I think that's amazing.”

"And I'm really looking forward to staying healthy going into a World Championship year. My groin does feel 100 per cent and I'm very happy about that.”

"I've already programmed my mind to run faster than 9.69 this year." Tyson said.

However comparing with the 100m world record of 9.58 seconds hold by Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay’s 100m personal best 9.69s (with a wind speed of +2.0 which is the maximum tail wind allowed) is miles behind. Let us see what will Tyson Gay bring us this year?
